Sophiline Cheam Shapiro is an award-winning choreographer and master of Cambodian classical dance. Her work has not only brought to life great classical works of dance dramas but she has also pioneered contemporary innovations. The first time I saw her work was Othello that was performed in 2003 in Phnom Penh. I contacted her and she kindly agreed to let me photograph her.
These portraits were made at the old Royal University of Fine Arts performing arts campus in the north of Phnom Penh.
